Band of the Golden West
The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West is stationed at Travis Air Force Base in the San Francisco Bay Area. As the only active-duty Air Force band west of the Rocky Mountains, the ensemble is composed of 60 talented and versatile Airmen-musicians who perform in a variety of groups, including a concert band, jazz band, rock band, and several classical chamber ensembles.
In addition to performing for civilian communities throughout California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, and Nevada, the band provides musical support to 13 Air Force bases, 8 Air Force Reserve wings, and 6 recruiting squadrons, presenting more than 250 performances each year for audiences totaling more than 7 million people.
The Band of the Golden West has performed for gubernatorial inaugurations and appeared with guest artists such as Marvin Stamm, Arturo Sandoval, and Bob Hope. They have also performed for fans of the San Francisco Giants, Sacramento Kings, and San Francisco 49ers. In 2023, the band was honored to perform at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in San Francisco, hosted by President Joe Biden and attended by dozens of presidents and prime ministers from around the world.
More recent appearances include featured performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and other distinguished musical organizations across the western United States.
