Andrea Yun
An active performer across North America, Europe, and Asia, she appears as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, and is a member of the Detroit Opera orchestra and the Ann Arbor Symphony. She has performed with ensembles including the Detroit Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, and Windsor Symphony, and has served as principal cellist with several orchestras.
Yun is also widely respected as a teacher and teacher trainer. Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she maintains a private studio and founded “Cellympics,” a play-based approach to cello pedagogy now used internationally. She is one of a select group of Suzuki cello teacher trainers in the Americas and has led workshops throughout the United States and abroad.
She holds degrees in music education, mathematics, and cello performance, including a doctorate in cello performance and pedagogy from the University of Michigan, and was named Michigan’s Teacher of the Year by the American String Teachers Association in 2020.
