James Doyle

James W. Doyle is a percussionist, teaching artist, composer, improviser, and multidisciplinary collaborator based in the Pacific Northwest.

He’s a member of Striking Music, a Seattle-based hybrid percussion ensemble exploring light, sound, and design, and Apricity Trio, a US/Japan-based flute, clarinet, and percussion chamber group collaborating with sculptor Koshi Hayashi.

He performs in various settings as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral percussionist throughout the Pacific Northwest and is a passionate observer of moving water. This latter detail can be understood through his ongoing series of single-shot videos/compositions titled “Confluence.”

His newest venture, Miscellany Music, forges artistic collaborations through the curation of solo and chamber concerts in unique venues and in collaboration with other artists using any variation of moving image, food and beverage, visual arts, spoken word, nature, and movement.

In addition to an active freelance schedule and festival appearances, James is a full-time faculty member at St. Martin’s University.
