Violin and violist Philip Payton enjoys a diverse career in New York City and around the country. He is currently performing in the Broadway production of Frozen after performing as concertmaster of Broadway’s Hello Dolly with Bette Midler over the past year. He also regularly performs in several ensembles including the American Ballet Theater, American Symphony, American Modern Ensemble, Sarasota Orchestra, Charleston Symphony, Harlem Chamber Players and others.
Philip has performed or recorded with many artists including James Taylor, John Legend, Harry Connick Jr., Jay-Zamongst several others. He can be heard on the Grammy-nominated cast recordings of Hello Dolly and The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas and the Grammy-winning cast recordings of Kinky Boots and West Side Story The New Broadway Cast Recording.
He has performed on Saturday Night Live, The Today Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show and Billy Joel’s Last Play at Shea.
Philip graduated from The University of Michigan and The Cleveland Institute of Music and was a co-concertmaster and co-principal second violin of The New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas.
