Portrait of an Artist 1 — Sally Singer, Cello

  • Garrison Creek Cellars 4153 Hood Road Walla Walla, WA, 99362 United States

The 2016 Portrait of an Artist Series kicks off the 2016 Festival in style with a program of works for cello and piano featuring British cellist, Sally Singer.

Sally is English, through and through. She even plays an English cello made in 1835. What, then, would be the perfect setting for her Portrait recital? Maybe a formal English tea with watercress sandwiches and various dainty delectables? Perhaps a visit to the fish and chipper for fried fare wrapped in the morning newspaper? Those would be predictable options, but Sally is anything but predictable. Her musical exploits have taken her around the globe and her musical interests are varied, indeed.

She serves as Artistic Director of Sankusem, a New York-based organization dedicated to African Art Music composed for classical instruments. With the Volta Piano Trio, she has released several recordings to critical acclaim and performed in places like St. Petersburg, Russia.

As a concerto soloist, she has performed on stages from Walla Walla to Pleven, Bulgaria. A regular guest artist of WWCMF since the inaugural season in 2008, it’s high time we got to know Sally a bit better. Only a setting with a vista as expansive as Sally’s musical interests will do. Therefore, WWCMF is delighted to return to the acoustic splendor and scenic perfection of Garrison Creek Cellars. Welcome to Chamber Music Season in Walla Walla!
